Amongst other things he has paddleboarded the length of the Mississippi, skateboarded across Australia, swum 1001 miles, written three books, stayed awake for 72 hours in a row without turning crazy, and for years has tried in vain to get Nutella to sponsor his adventures. But will he give up? Never!
Let me introduce you to my friend Jodie Nelson, former pro surfer, breast cancer charity fundraiser, sarcasm queen, eternal friend of Larry the Whale, TV-producing star, Ellen guest and founder of one of our favourite non-profits in the world, Paddle With Purpose.
Throughout Swim1000 (and all of my own SUP mini-missions) Paddle With Purpose is ever present. Jodie’s brainchild (originating from her record-breaking solo crossing to California from Catalina), PWP empowers people through Stand Up Paddleboarding at the same time as raising funds and awareness for worthy causes and organisations.
On the top, sides and bottom of our SUP boards, the PWP logos signified my team’s mission for the Summer. This was no holiday.
Paddle With Purpose is all about positive vibes. Consider your own potential, take on healthy challenges with other people in mind, and spread the goodness as you go. It’s all about smiles, moving forward and being the best we can be.
Our Ness (with paddle) and Emily (the wet one) have taken the Paddle With Purpose message to heart.
Following Swim1000 these ladies are preparing to take on the world of adventure, pursuing challenges never before completed by women.
I daresay they might be boasting a Paddle With Purpose cap as they do so but the message here is so simple. Take the first step and realise you’ve got so much further to travel.
